Lexington Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Lexington Police Department starts at $54,600 a year — about $26.25 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $13,790 below the median of the 1,681 agencies on this list, and $16,664 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Texas run about 3% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $56,256 would somewhere at average prices — $1,656 more than the headline figure. That average hides a wide spread: utilities at 88, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

About Lexington

Lexington Police Department serves a town of around 1,200 in the northern part of Lee County, working from Main Street in one of the smallest municipal agencies on this site. Its stated mission is to improve quality of life by building trust and reducing crime, and it hires cadets with no police experience and puts them through the academy before licensing

Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 August 2026. City of Lexington — Lexington Police Department 2025 recruiting advertisement (TCOLE document library) — open the source document
City of Lexington's own 2025 recruiting advertisement, hosted in the TCOLE document library: Licensed Police Officer salary range $54,600.00 to $58,968.00, with a $2,000 hiring bonus and twelve-hour shifts. The department also runs a separate Police Cadet class at $41,600.00 a year, described on the same sheet as the route for entry-level applicants with no police experience: the cadet attends the academy, sits the TCOLE licensing examination and on passing is promoted to police officer starting at $54,600.00. That promotion figure is the entry rate for a licensed officer and is what is published here; the cadet rate is excluded, in line with every other agency on the site. The cadet commits to two years of service or repays the academy tuition.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.

How this level compares

Where Lexington sits is partly about the agency and partly about which level of policing it belongs to. The three levels do not pay the same.
