What Muskogee does
The Muskogee Police Department is the city force for Muskogee in eastern Oklahoma, formed in 1898; before that, policing there was done by a city marshal and the United States Marshals Service, and one early officer was Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves. The department is organised into a Headquarters Division, an Investigations Division and a Patrol Division, with specialised units and a reserve officer programme, and it runs Crime Stoppers alongside online crime reporting and a Blue Envelope programme for drivers who may have difficulty communicating during a traffic stop. It sets out six standing goals covering crime prevention, investigation and arrest, traffic and safety enforcement, public order, emergency service and community support, and it grounds its public-service philosophy explicitly in the British police principles. All sworn personnel assigned a vehicle may take it home if they live within ten miles of 3rd and Okmulgee, and up to thirty miles with a payroll deduction for the extra mileage. The City pays the whole cost of officer medical insurance and runs a 457 deferred compensation plan alongside the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System. Beards are permitted within grooming limits for officers in class B uniform.

Read 10 September 2026 from the department's own recruitment site. The department publishes both the rate and its own annual conversion: 1st Year $26.57 an hour or $55,265.60 a year, probationary status; 2nd Year $28.09 an hour or $58,427.20, with a 4.5 per cent step raise on each yearly anniversary after that until year nine, and at least a 5 per cent increase on promotion to a higher rank. THE ENTRY TEST IS SETTLED BY WHERE THE CERTIFICATION MONEY GOES: CLEET certified officers are not paid a higher base but are eligible for a $15,000 bonus on top of their regular salary, paid in three parts - $5,000 on hire, $5,000 on completing field training and $5,000 at one year - so the first-year rate applies to certified and uncertified alike and is the no-experience figure. Excluded: that bonus, incentive pay of $25 a month for basic CLEET certification rising to $275 a month for a Master's degree, $50 a month bilingual pay for Spanish, longevity from $860 a year at two years to $3,228 at twenty, the $1,750 annual clothing and cleaning allotment from the second year, $2.00 an hour field training officer pay, and 24 hours of fitness leave for passing the annual voluntary fitness test. Overtime is paid beyond 80 hours in a two-week period at time and a half, or taken as compensatory time at the same rate up to 480 hours.

differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
