Nye County Sheriff's Office entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Nye County Sheriff's Office starts at $57,741 a year — about $27.76 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $8,944 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $5,819 below the median for county agencies.
What Nye County says about itself
The Nye County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to the philosophy and the implementation of the principles of community policing. We strive to establish and maintain a relationship with the community in order to ensure needs are met as it relates to law enforcement and crime prevention.
What Nye County does
The Nye County Sheriff's Office polices the third-largest county in the United States by area - some 18,000 square miles of central Nevada running from Pahrump near the California line to Tonopah and the Nevada National Security Site - and works it as three area commands, North, Central and South. Its deputies, bailiffs, sheriff's investigators and district attorney investigators are represented together by the Nye County Law Enforcement Association on a seven-step scale that prices degrees and POST certificates as premiums rather than grades.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Nye County Law Employees Association Addendum C, "Pay Schedules July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027": the row "G1 DEPUTY" reads Step 1 $27.76, rising to $39.65 at Step 7. — open the source document
$57,740.80 is $27.76 an hour x 2,080; the schedule prices hourly and states no annual, so the multiplication is mine. G1 DEPUTY IS THE BASE AND EVERY OTHER DEPUTY LINE IS A PREMIUM ON IT. The schedule stacks four versions of the same seven-step ladder: the base, G1 at $27.76; a 2% Associate's degree version, G1A at $28.31; a 4% Bachelor's version, G1B at $28.87; and a specialised-duty version, G1S at $28.87, which a note restricts to "K9 Handler, School Resource Officer, S.W.A.T" full-time assignments only. Within each, G2 and G3 add 2% for Intermediate and Advanced POST certificates. NONE OF THESE IS A LOWER CLASS - they all sit ABOVE the base - and no recruit, cadet, trainee or probationary rate appears anywhere on the schedule. Probation under Article 12 is twelve months from date of hire with no separate wage. Excluded from the figure: Steps 2 to 7 of G1, reaching $39.65; the degree, POST and specialised-duty premiums; and the separately priced D.A. Investigator, Bailiff and Sheriff Investigator ladders. THE SCHEDULE IS THE COUNTY'S OWN AND IS CURRENT, covering the fiscal year now running, and it is headed with the rise that produced it - "Deputy: 2.8% CPI". ONE THING DOES NOT ADD UP AND IS RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED OVER: the previous published schedule, attached to the 2024-2027 NCLEA agreement, priced G1 Step 1 at $27.00 for 9 December 2024 to 30 June 2025, and $27.00 x 1.028 is $27.76 exactly - a single CPI step. Article 15 of that agreement required an increase on 1 July 2025 as well as 1 July 2026, each at least one per cent, so two steps should separate the two schedules. Either the 2024 schedule already carried the 2025 uplift or a 2025-26 schedule is unpublished; the County's documents do not say which.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
