Pershing County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Pershing County Sheriff's Office starts at $56,014 a year — about $26.93 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $10,670 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $7,545 below the median for county agencies.

About Pershing County

The Pershing County Sheriff's Office polices about 6,000 square miles of north-central Nevada from Lovelock, on the Humboldt River along Interstate 80, running patrol, criminal investigation, court security and the county jail. Its deputies and detention officers are represented by the Pershing County Law Enforcement Association, which prices Deputy Sheriff I, Detention Officer, Deputy Sheriff II, Investigator and Sergeant as five separate salary ranges rather than as steps of one class.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 22 September 2026. Pershing County Law Enforcement Association and Pershing County, Collective Bargaining Agreement 2026-2027, Attachment A "Law Enforcement FY27": Range 11 Step 1 reads annual $56,014.40, monthly $4,667.87, hourly $26.93. — open the source document
$56,014.40 is the County's OWN annual figure for Range 11 Step 1 in the fiscal year now running and no arithmetic has been applied to it; it is $26.93 an hour at 2,080 hours. RANGE 11 IS THE HIRE CLASS AND THE CONTRACT SAYS SO IN TERMS. Article 7C: "A Deputy Sheriff hired in the classification of Deputy Sheriff I shall be compensated at Range 11. Upon successful completion of probation, a Deputy Sheriff I will advance to the classification of Deputy Sheriff II, Range 13." Appendix A lists the classes and ranges: Deputy Sheriff I 11, Detention Officer - POST Cat. 3 Cert. 12, Deputy Sheriff II - POST Cat. 1 Cert. 13, Investigator 14, Deputy Sheriff Sergeant 15. WHAT SEPARATES 11 FROM 13 IS POST CERTIFICATION, NOT SWORN STATUS, and certification never disqualifies a figure here; there is no recruit, cadet or trainee class anywhere on the scale. Probation is one year from the date of hire under Article 7A. Excluded from the figure: Steps 2 to 10 of Range 11, which reach $30.34 an hour; every range above 11; and the resident deputy assignment pay in Article 8C. THE FIGURE IS CURRENT AND THE PREVIOUS YEAR IS PRINTED BESIDE IT: Attachment A carries both FY26 and FY27, Range 11 Step 1 being $50,939.20 ($24.49) in FY26 and $56,014.40 ($26.93) in FY27, which is the flat 10% Article 8A.2 sets for the first pay period in July 2026. THE ATTACHMENT IS A SCANNED IMAGE inside an otherwise text-bearing contract, so the figures were read from the rendered page and checked against the arithmetic: $26.93 x 2,080 = $56,014.40 exactly, and $24.49 x 1.10 = $26.94.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
