What Storey County says about itself
It is the mission of the Storey County Sheriff's Office to serve the residents of Storey County by providing safe and secure communities using the resources entrusted to us.
What Storey County does
The Storey County Sheriff's Office is the chief law enforcement agency for one of Nevada's smallest counties by population - Virginia City, Gold Hill and the Comstock, together with the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center on the county's western edge - and also runs dispatch, animal control, crime prevention and emergency response. Its deputies are represented by NAPSO on a ten-step ladder, with corporals and sergeants on the same schedule and supervisory ranks bargained separately.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Storey County NAPSO (Nevada Association of Police & Sheriff's Office) Pay Schedule 26-27, sheet headed "FY27 SO Union": the Deputy row reads Step 1 $63,521.49 a year, $30.54 an hour, rising to $102,847.29 and $49.45 at Step 10. — open the source document
$63,521.49 is the County's OWN annual figure for Deputy Step 1 in the fiscal year now running and no arithmetic has been applied to it; the schedule prints an annual and an hourly rate for every step and they agree at 2,080 hours ($30.54 x 2,080 = $63,523.20, the cents differing by rounding). DEPUTY IS THE BOTTOM CLASS ON THE SCHEDULE. It carries three rows only - Deputy, Corporal at $81,388.10 and Sergeant at $87,783.09 - and nothing sits beneath Deputy: no recruit, cadet, trainee or probationary line. Supervisory ranks are bargained separately by the Storey County Sheriff's Supervisory Association, which has its own agreement and its own pay schedule, which is why the deputies' schedule stops where it does. Excluded from the figure: Steps 2 to 10, which reach $102,847.29; and both supervisory classes. THE SCHEDULE IS PUBLISHED BY THE COUNTY ALONGSIDE THE AGREEMENT IT PRICES - the NAPSO collective bargaining agreement 24-27 and two memoranda amending it, one to Article 7 effective 1 July 2025 and one to Articles 13 and 15 effective 1 July 2026 - all on the County's own Union Contracts page. THE AGREEMENT ITSELF IS A SCANNED IMAGE with no text layer; the pay schedule is not, and it is the County's own current document.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
