Taylor Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Taylor Police Department starts at $61,763 a year — about $29.69 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $6,627 below the median of the 1,681 agencies on this list, and $9,501 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Texas run about 3% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $63,636 would somewhere at average prices — $1,873 more than the headline figure. That average hides a wide spread: utilities at 88, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isTaylor Police Department reported 29 sworn officers and 11 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.6 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 18,250.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. Shifts at Taylor

What the agency publishes

Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts and are off every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The agency publishes the shift length but not a named cycle. These are the 12-hour rotations departments most often build on it: Pitman, 4 on, 4 off, DuPont, Panama.

Every other weekend off is a fortnightly cycle, so the weekend you are free moves and the one you are working never falls on the same date twice. BlueShifts draws the whole pattern months ahead, so you can see which weekends are yours before anyone asks you to commit to one.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 15 August 2026. City of Taylor — Civil Service Pay Schedule, Police Department, effective 1 October 2025 — open the source document
The City of Taylor's civil service pay schedule, effective 1 October 2025, runs the Police Officer scale from step PO-B at $61,763.17 a year ($29.69 an hour) through eighteen steps to PO-17 at $88,994.64. Police Corporal begins at $78,884.51 and Police Sergeant at $87,181.12. The schedule reflects a 3 per cent cost of living rise for the 2026 financial year on top of a market adjustment from the City's 2024 compensation study.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
