Waxahachie Police Department serves an Ellis County city south of Dallas from Farley Street, working through patrol, criminal investigation, dispatch, records service and specialised units, with patrol shifts run by shift commanders at lieutenant rank. It states its mission as deterring crime and apprehending offenders while maintaining strong police-community relations and continually enhancing the training and expertise of its members, and its goals include maintaining a proactive patrol and investigation force and using selective traffic enforcement to keep people and vehicles moving. On 1 January 2013 it became the 69th agency in Texas recognised under the Texas Police Chiefs Association's Best Practices programme, meeting over 170 standards, and it was re-recognised in 2018 and again in 2024, an assessment carried out on site by outside chiefs every four years.
